Welcome to  Lincoln School’s Computer Lab!

What is available and taught in the lab?

Our Lab is equipped with Broadband Internet connection, 32 computers, digital projection for easy step-by-step tutorials, 5 scanners, 2 LaserJet color  printers, 4 LaserJet non-color printers,  a digital recorder and 4 digital cameras for in-class project use.  Students are encouraged to learn hands on.  They will be learning the basics on all MS Office software as well as basic keyboarding, digital graphic art, and web design.  Students from grades 6-8 will be guided on internet safety, navigation, and the basics on how to operate under the Windows XP System.  All work is project-based and students are encouraged to learn about technology in an innovative and creative manner.

How safe is the lab?

Most parents are fearful of the dangers the internet poses for children.  This is understandable but the best way to combat ignorance is through knowledge.  We encourage students to use the internet as an effective learning tool, as well as a means of communication.  However all students are exposed to internet safety lessons and are limited on site accessibility in our lab.  We have a word sensitive firewall which limits inappropriate web searches and we have remote monitoring on each system.  So the teacher can see everything on the desktops from the teacher’s desktop.  We’ve tried to take the measures necessary to protect our students from inappropriate material.  Students and Parents are to sign contracts at the beginning of the school year allowing them internet access and the computer use guidelines, rules, and consequences for inappropriate use of equipment.
